Funding in an Evaluation: Use the Position at the Defined Fixing
A funding charge can refer to a position observation at a defined fixing. If the position changes afterwards, a later screenshot may no longer show the relevant quantity. Preserve the fixing definition and the record actually used.

Save the fixing and subsequent events separately
Record the instrument, supplied fixing instant, position quantity, price basis, rate and currency. These fields depend on the product’s documented method. The example below defines its own simple linear calculation and does not assert a universal venue or HashHedge formula.
Retain a later partial exit or size change as another event. A charge timestamp, fixing instant and local diary date may be different fields. They should remain linked rather than collapsed into one convenient screenshot.
Audit a fictional defined charge
The teaching rule charges 0.01% of supplied notional at the fixing. With four units and a fixing price of 1,000 quote units, notional is 4,000 and the debit is 0.4. A later position reduction to two units does not retrospectively change the defined fixing record.
Using the later quantity would produce 0.2 and create an artificial 0.2 discrepancy. The correct conclusion depends on the actual product rule and fixing evidence. Missing fixing data leaves the reconstruction incomplete, even if the later position is known.
| Field | At fixing | Later observation |
|---|---|---|
| Quantity | 4 | 2 after a separate reduction |
| Supplied fixing price | 1,000 | Do not replace retrospectively |
| Fixing notional | 4,000 | Later size is another event |
| Defined debit | 0.4 | 0.2 would use the wrong quantity |
Reconcile the ledger before the account rule
For a Canadian report, preserve the original charge asset before any explicit CAD conversion. A reporting currency cannot change the fixing quantity. The site’s earlier fixing-snapshot article remains the detailed companion.
HashHedge’s published guidance notes funding effects on account values. Check the actual charged movement and current conditions before interpreting account headroom. The optional affiliate link neither verifies a real funding debit nor suggests that this fictional method describes every instrument.
